Once he succeeds, he will reject her and wed her sister Elise, his true love. Heartbroken, Mina secretly swaps places with Elise and agrees to become the Vampire King's bride. On the wedding day, Lucien lifts the veil and finds Elise standing in Mina's place. In that crushing moment, he finally realizes that Mina is the one he truly loves. But it is too late.
