Jealous of Wen Nuan, Wen Xueyi seduces her fiancé, Lu Haotian, and tricks Wen Nuan into sleeping with Luo Huaizhou, leading her to believe that the child she's carrying is Lu Haotian's. It's only at the time of childbirth that she learns the truth. Wen Nuan's reputation is ruined, and her mother dies from the shock. Wen Xueyi pushes Wen Nuan down the stairs, and Lu Haotian abandons her, thinking she's dead.
