Die alleinerziehende Mutter Clara zieht ihre Tochter Linda allein groß. Linda erkrankt und benötigt eine teure Behandlung. Clara kann die Operation nicht bezahlen und nimmt daher an einem „Brautwahlspiel“ teil, das ein reicher Junggeselle veranstaltet. Sie ahnt nicht, dass dieser Junggeselle ihr Ex-Freund ist. Obwohl Clara versucht zu fliehen, tappt sie schließlich doch in seine Falle.
