On Gu Bai's birthday, Zhu Qingqing drives with their daughter Nan Nan to celebrate, but collides with Jiang Ya, who is also on her way to celebrate Gu Bai's birthday. Zhu Qingqing and Nan Nan are critically injured. Gu Bai, a doctor, arrives at the scene but ignores Zhu Qingqing's desperate call for help, choosing to save his first love Jiang Ya and her son Hao Hao instead. Due to Gu Bai's negligence, Nan Nan misses the crucial window for treatment and dies. While Zhu Qingqing is devastated, Gu Bai dismisses her grief as jealousy and even considers divorce. Meanwhile, Jiang Ya, recovering in the hospital, learns of Nan Nan's death. To force the couple to divorce, she conceals this information and disrupts Nan Nan's funeral until the police intervene. Gu Bai finally discovers Nan Nan's death certificate at the hospital, realizing the truth too late and filled with regret and anguish.
