Qi Zhaodi was born into a family that favored sons over daughters and was married off early for a dowry. Although her husband was good, he died in a mining accident, leaving her alone with her ill mother-in-law. Determined to stay and care for her mother-in-law, she relies on her bond with her mother-in-law Xiuying. Her family learns that she received compensation for the mining accident and tries to force her to return 188,000 yuan to her younger brother as a dowry. After a series of maneuvers, she remains firm. However, she faces constant harassment from the local bully Liu Mang, and her family even conspires with him to ruin her reputation. Eventually, Liu Mang is sent to prison by Qi Zhaodi. With Qi Yaozu's marriage approaching, the family plans to arrange a marriage between his wife's idiot brother and Qi Zhaodi's younger sister to replace her. Qi Zhaodi then starts a rescue plan for her younger sister.
