Pendant trois ans, Josette Labonté combattait au front. À son retour, enceinte et au bras d'un autre, elle remit à Wilfred Pichon, Grand Maréchal impérial en retraite, obéissant aux dernières volontés de ses parents pour l'épouser - une lettre de répudiation : « Mon mari doit être un héros, pas un lettré faible. » Mais Wilfred revêtit de nouveau son armure et brandit sa lance légendaire.
