20年前、クロエは病気の母グレースを救うため、祖父の条件を飲んで家を出た。しかし吹雪の中で事故に遭い、記憶を喪失。ボイラー作業員のジャックに拾われ、レナという名で育てられる。そして20年後、レナは養父の年金のため、今や富豪となった実母グレースの前に現れる。だがグレースは、目の前の貧しい娘が生き別れた我が子とは知らず、残酷な言葉を浴びせるのだった。
