Gu Zhenjun’s mother secretly returns to the country to celebrate his birthday, only to be hit in a drunk-driving accident by him and his ex, Bai Ruoxi. To escape responsibility, they force Gu's wife, Yang Xue'er, to take the blame. On her deathbed, heartbroken by her son's coldness, the mother rewrites her will—leaving the entire Gu Corporation to Yang Xue'er and stripping Gu Zhenjun of his inheritance. Gu refuses to believe the will is real until it's confirmed by the lawyer and board. Devastated, he breaks down before his mother's body. In a rage, he chases Bai Ruoxi, leading to her fatal fall, and is later killed in a hit-and-run while fleeing.
