Cambridge history researcher Kyle hunts for a time portal linked to Pharaoh Sethos. He finds a lapis lazuli ring in the Valley of the Kings and is sent back to Ancient Egypt. Accidentally intruding on Sethos’ bath, he is accused of assassination. He survives by forecasting a total solar eclipse, then uses modern medical and military expertise to stop rebellions, cure plague and uncover poison schemes, winning Sethos’ full trust and love. They jointly fight corrupt priests and Hittite troops, growing deeply attached. Altering the Battle of Kadesh triggers harsh temporal backlash against Kyle. Sethos even begs the gods to spare Kyle at the price of his own life. When priests stage a coup to burn Kyle alive, Sethos shields him and gets shot by a poisoned arrow; Kyle carries out emergency battlefield surgery to save him. When the time rift reopens, Kyle smashes the ring and chooses to stay. After eliminating all traitors, Sethos cancels the queen system and rules alongside Kyle as co-kings
