After her mother's death from lung cancer, 38‑year‑old librarian Margaret discovers a brass key unlocking a dusty leather‑bound stamp album. Its 1978 stamps trace her mother's 600‑km escape: at 24, she fled years of abuse from her father with three‑year‑old Margaret. Margaret revisits all six towns on the route, photographs her journey and self‑publishes the nonprofit memoir *The Runaway Stamps*. Her father sues for defamation, but Margaret submits unaltered‑diary, hospital records and the album as proof. The case is dismissed. Her story resonates with abuse survivors, and memorial plaques are placed along the escape path. Margaret returns the album to her mother’s old home, whose pomegranate tree blooms every year.
